Embark on a journey into the heart of Kazakh life, where the age-old tradition of hunting with Golden Eagles comes to life. Meet the skilled Kusbegi, also known as Eagle Trainers, and Berkutchi, the revered Eagle Hunters, as they showcase the centuries-old art of training these majestic birds. Passed down from generation to generation, the secrets of wild bird training are closely guarded, creating a rare and fascinating experience.

In the Altai mountains, witness the awe-inspiring sight of Golden Eagles, with a wingspan stretching from 180cm to 220cm and a majestic height of up to 95cm. Their dark-brown plumage, golden-red nape, and large nests in rocky niches add to the mystique of these incredible creatures. Eagles settle in couples, forming nests with a diameter of up to 2 meters, while their lifespan in the wild can reach up to 100 years.

As you immerse yourself in this unique experience, we want to ensure your safety and enjoyment. Dress in neutral tones to avoid attracting eagles, and refrain from venturing too close during the competition. Stay within designated areas, as eagles are focused on the hunt, and be cautious not to disrupt their natural instincts. In the event of confusion or loss, return to your designated meeting point.

Remember, these Golden Eagles are not pets—respect their nature and avoid attempting to touch or hold them without the guidance of their skilled owners, the Eagle Hunters (Burkitshii). Their aggression is natural, and your safety is paramount as you witness the mesmerizing spectacle of the Eagle Hunting Festival in Mongolia.

Day2: Eagle hunting contest

On day two, the excitement continues with eagle hunters dragging lifelike animal skins, challenging their eagles to catch the “prey” in a display of skill and precision. Engage in other wild and entertaining games, including the fierce Push Cashy, a battle for the “death goat” body, and the captivating women’s chasing game “Kyz Kuar.” The festivities culminate in a grand awarding ceremony, celebrating the prowess of these remarkable Eagle Hunters.

Traveling through Mongolia’s mountains on horseback was an incredible experience. Very grounding and kind of therapeutic for me. Bataa always made an effort to satisfy everyone’s wishes and helped us understand his county’s traditions. I felt very well taken care of and welcomed by his kindness and humor. I can only recommend traveling with Bataa, he was one of the reasons why that trip was so special.

It was a dream for me to discover Mongolia on horseback. The experience was even more incredible than I had hoped, and one thing’s for sure, Bataa had a lot to do with it. Thanks to him, we got to know the traditions and people of Mongolia. He was available 24 hours a day to help us communicate with our guides and helped us, explaining what we should and shouldn’t do. He was there for the laughing, the good times but also when we were having a hard time. Perfect guy-de😃 ! I’ll definetely do my next trip with him again !

Where should I start – I had an an indescribable and amazing experience from the beginning until the end and further.

I was on a very well-organized nine-day riding tour with a small group of people. Bataa from Taiga Nomadic Travel accompanied our group and did incredible work to provide us with unforgettable experiences (for example feeding eagles, eating traditional Mongolian food, galloping bareback through the Mongolian steppe and heading camels).
Always helpful and friendly, he enabled communication with the Mongolian horsemen, took us to Gers and introduced us to nomadic families and their way of living. Further, he spontaneously organized an additional three-day stay with a family of Kazakh Eagle Hunters – another once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Bataa was always available, helping with several issues and did his very best to fulfill all desires. My expectations were more than satisfied and for certain it wasn’t my last tour with Taiga Nomadic Travel.
